The new line is a two-track high-speed line. The section of line to be built runs south of the Weinberg landfill to north of the Weißenbrunn am Forst Viaduct. The main components of this project are the Kulch and Lichtenholz tunnels, the Mühlbach Bridge at Untersiemau and an earthwork section of around 4 kilometres with embankments and cuttings.
