The Maintal flood channel system
The plan for the extension of the Maintal flood channel system includes the existing channels. The flood channels are deepened and connected to an outflow-effective flood system. The terrain modelling of the Maintal flood system tray offsets the reductions in the retention area following the construction of the new line and offers enough storage space for the anticipated water quantities in the event of flooding.
Comprehensive conservation-related compensatory measures are planned in order to compensate for the impact the projects will have on nature in the Maintal region. These include in addition to terrain modelling of the channels, the cultivation of natural, ecologically high-value pasture vegetation, grass seeding for soil stabilization, succession areas that will be left for nature to encroach upon, and plantations with native tree and shrub species.
