Fact and figures

The Lichtenholz Tunnel runs for 931 metres under the rolling hills of Coburger Land. The tunnel is being excavated from north to south using mining methods as a two-track tunnel tube that is sealed against water pressure.

According to the plan, the excavated material from the tunnel and cuttings is being reincorporated and used to improve the track bed. Around 1.5 million cubic metres of excess material is being stored in the Weinberg, Steinbruchsäcker and Breites Stück landfills.
