Construction of the new VDE 8.2 line
The construction of the new line from Erfurt to Leipzig/Halle can be subdivided into three sections:
Western section:
This section extends from Erfurt to west of the Finne Tunnel by Herrengosserstedt. This section can be subdivided in turn into three construction lots: lots 1 to 3.

Central section:
This section contains all the tunnels. Because of the tunnels and viaducts, only about 4 kilometres of this section of line, which is over 20 kilometres long, run across open country. As a result, it makes sense for the tunnel workers to construct these small sections of track as well.
Eastern section:
This section begins to the east of the Osterberg Tunnel and extends to the existing lines to the north and east of the Saale-Elster Viaduct.
Once the ground has been prepared, the slab track can be constructed and technical equipment installed from the year 2012 onwards.
