Relocation of sand lizards

The Halle hub integration project has been subject to comprehensive ecological monitoring since commencement of the planning phase. Habitats were mapped comprehensively when the key planning documents were drawn up. They formed the basis of an environmental impact study and a landscape management plan, which stipulate all the protection objectives and compensation measures. Their implementation during the building phase will be ensured by an ecological construction management system.

Specimens of sand lizard (Lacerta agilis) were collected extensively across the construction area before the project commenced and relocated in a previously-prepared replacement habitat, preventing any harm to a species which enjoys strict protection under federal legislation on protection of the natural environment.
